Why are we using Microsoft 365?

Due to changes announced by Google and Yahoo! effective February 1, 2024, significant changes to our email service were necessary requiring mailboxes previously managed via Gmail to be moved under a new email subdomain managed by Microsoft 365 in order for student email accounts to remain under the @ChicagoBooth.edu mail domain.

How do I access my email?

Students can access their email via Web, Mobile App, and/or Desktop App. Note: all methods of accessing your Microsoft 365 email require two-factor authentication.

  • To access your email via the Outlook Web App: visit login.microsoftonline.com and log in with your @ChicagoBooth.edu email address, then select “Student Login” and enter your CNet credentials.
  • To access your email via Mobile App: download the Outlook app from your device's app store and log in with your @ChicagoBooth.edu email address and CNet credentials. Alternatively, if using the Apple Mail app on iOS devices (iPhone, iPad), please follow the instructions found here - choosing Microsoft Exchange as the email provider, entering your @ChicagoBooth.edu email address & pressing Next, selecting "Sign In" at the initial prompt & "Continue" at the next prompt, then clicking "Student Login" and logging in with your CNet credentials.
  • To access your email via Desktop App: download one of several desktop email apps and configure for use with your Booth email address - instructions are linked for popular email clients such as Microsoft Outlook*, Apple Mail (macOS), and Mozilla Thunderbird.
    • *You can download Microsoft Office apps, including Outlook, from UChicago ITS. In a new/unauthenticated browser session, visit portal.office.com and log in with your CNetID@uchicago.edu account. Once logged in, on the right hand side, select Install Apps > Microsoft 365 apps to download the installation file. Run the installation file and activate the license using your CNet credentials, i.e., CNetID & password and/or CNetID@uchicago.edu & password. Once completed, open Outlook and add your @ChicagoBooth.edu email address following these instructions, as provided above.

Do I have access to Google Drive?

Yes, your access to other Google Workspace apps (Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.) will remain in place without Gmail.

Booth Microsoft 365 does not include Microsoft OneDrive, as this service is provided by UChicago's instance of Microsoft 365. To access OneDrive via your UChicago Office 365 (O365) account, in a new/unauthenticated browser session, visit portal.office.com, enter your CNetID@uchicago.edu account, and log in with your CNetID credentials.

Please keep in mind that you will lose any files found in these platforms when your account changes to Alumni status, so make sure to save a local backup of any important documents found in these services prior to or upon graduation.

Why am I missing emails?

This may be the result of Focused Inbox being enabled. To confirm, try turning Focused Inbox off:

  1. Login to your email account.
  2. Click the Settings button (gear icon) at the top-right.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. Navigate to Settings > Mail > Layout.
  4. Change Focused Inbox setting to Don't sort my messages.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  5. Click the Save button at the bottom-right.
