Governance, Prioritization, and Scheduling

Summary

Governance, Prioritization, and Scheduling

Body

The Booth Information Technology Team works diligently to stay in touch with departments within Booth, across the University and with our peer-schools and other Universities.  These connections help us to better understand the challenges that other Teams face so that we can provide solutions to meet their needs.  Connecting with Teams through-out the University enables us to keep abreast of changes that could impact Booth.  And connecting with other Universities allows us to share information on all of the great things happening at Booth.

Here are a few of the ways that Booth IT connects with the community:

  • Monthly meetings with Student Services (including Full-Time, Evening & Weekend and PhD), Faculty Services, Career Services, Marketing, AXP (Hong Kong & Singapore), EXP (London) and XP (North America).  In these meetings, we review JIRA work requests, discuss prioritization, scheduling and planning, discuss projects and other initiatives.
  • Periodic meetings with Accounting / Purchasing, Admissions, Alumni Development, Research Centers, Executive Education, Financial Aid, Facilities and LEAD.  In these meetings, we review JIRA work requests, discuss prioritization, scheduling and planning, discuss projects and other initiatives.
  • Booth Intranet User Group – Quarterly Meetings with representatives from departments across Booth to prioritize work on the Intranet.
  • Project Prioritization – Meet periodically with a team of senior staff to review, prioritize and schedule new projects.
  • Project Review – The Booth IT Leadership Team and the project managers meet every two weeks to review projects in progress, discuss status, issues, risks and budget.
  • Metrics Review – The Booth IT Leadership Team meets monthly to review key metrics for each team.  The metrics help ensure that we continue to deliver stable reliable applications and high customer service and satisfaction.

Students and Faculty

  • Graduate Business Council (GBC) Technology Committee – Meet twice a year to review work that impacts full-time students.  We discuss completed work, work in progress and planned work that impacts students.  We discuss student input and feedback about what is working well or not working well with technology.
  • Student Advisory Council (SAC) – We attend the part-time student annual meeting to review technology initiatives and solicit input and feedback about what is working well or not working well with technology.
  • Faculty Technology Committee – Meet twice a year with a committee of faculty who serve as an advisory committee on technology initiatives.  They provide input and guidance on technology projects and initiatives that impact faculty.

Intra-University

  • Monthly meetings with ITS Leadership Team and IT Leaders from across campus: review and discuss initiatives underway at ITS that may impact the schools and divisions.  We discuss priorities, opportunities and challenges.
  • Monthly meeting with the ITS Griffin team to discuss any planned maintenance or changes to Griffin that would impact the Booth Data Warehouse or Status Flows.
  • IT Leaders – Monthly meeting with IT leaders from across campus to collaborate and share information about opportunities and challenges.
  • Forum For Academic Computing and Technology (FACT) – FACT combines the IT technical leaders of all the academic divisions and schools, their alternates and designates, and selected individuals from within IT Services, in one common forum that meets monthly to discuss campus IT and IT-related matters.

Inter-University

  • Business Computing Directors (BCD) – twice a year meeting with approximately 25 peer schools.  (e.g. Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, MIT, Yale, etc.)  At these meetings CIOs share information on projects that they have underway, discuss vendors, challenges and opportunities.
  • Educause – Non-profit association focused on technology in higher education.  We participate in conferences and information sharing.
