Outlook 365 Outlook for Windows Installation Guide

Body

We have found issues in which some versions of Outlook for Windows will not connect to Office 365 or may displays a licensing error when attempting to connect.  This is because of several compatibility issues with the Enterprise licensing for the Universities O365 accounts and some of these Outlook editions.

*Please note, we have seen several issues with the default Outlook (new) edition on many new laptops.  This is not a full enterprise version of Outlook, it is an updated version of older Microsoft Mail.

If this issue is experienced, the following process is a common solution.

  1. Go to https://www.office.com and login with your uchicago.edu account.
  2. On your home page, click “Install and More” and select “Install Microsoft 365 Apps”
  3. Download and install apps.
  4. Open Word and open the Account tab in the left pane
  5. Register the Office product with your UChicago account.  This will activate your Office 365 license on all of the Microsoft Office 365 App products.
  6. Open the new version of Outlook
  7. It will automatically search and detect your UChicago account, simply clear that address and enter in your Booth email address and complete the login process.
  8. If you get an MDM (Mobile Device Management) error, just close it, as Booth does not use Office 365 MDM.
  9. Your new Office 365 should now start loading your email profile.

If you are prompted for an IMAP or other connection this is not correct.  You are using an Office 365 connection.  You might need to back up and start again and let the auto-configure retry.
