Microsoft Teams Frequently Asked Questions

This document will cover common questions Booth Faculty and Staff may have with Microsoft Teams.

Q: HOW DO I LOG IN?

A: Once you download and install Microsoft Teams, it will launch during your computer’s startup automatically. If you “Sign out” of Microsoft Teams and relaunch the application, remember to use your UChicago email address when Signing/Logging in.

 

Q: DO I HAVE TO BE LOGGED IN TO TEAMS TO RECEIVE A MESSAGE/COMMUNICATION?

A: If you Log out of Microsoft Teams and your colleague sends a chat, you will receive an email from noreply@email.teams.microsoft.com. The body of the message will look similar to the screen shot below:

 

 

In order to change the frequency of the notifications, click here for the instructions. You will also receive the chat/message once you log in to Teams again.

 

Q: WILL MY SKYPE CONVERSATIONS BE SAVED IN TEAMS?

A: On July 1, 2021, Booth will officially shift to Microsoft Teams as a replacement for Skype for Business. Access to Skype and any Skype conversations will no longer be available on July 19, 2021.

 

Q: CAN I ACCESS TEAMS ON MY MOBILE PHONE OR TABLET?

A: Microsoft Teams is available to download on any iOS (App Store) or Android (Google Play) devices. Once you download the application, remember to use your UChicago email address to log in and your CNet Password if/when prompted.

 

Q: WHAT OPERATING SYSTEM DOES MICROSOFT TEAMS USE?

A: Teams works with Android devices using the last four major OS versions. iPhones, iPads, and iPods: Teams work with devices using iOS versions 11-14. For the best experience, use the latest version of the iOS and Android

 

Q: HOW DO I INSTALL MICROSOFT TEAMS ON A MAC?

A: Please utilize the instructions to download and install Microsoft Teams for the following Operating Systems:

  •  For Mac OS, click here
  •  For Windows, click here

 

Q: CAN I SEE MY COLLEAGUES FREE/BUSY IN MICROSOFT TEAMS?

A: Because we are using the University’s Teams Tenant, our UChicago calendars drive the Status Options (Available, Busy, Appear Offline, etc.) and will not be accurate.

Please utilize Outlook calendars to determine if your colleagues are free/busy.

Q: HOW DO I REMOVE SKYPE FOR BUSINESS FROM MAC OS DEVICES?
